Caterwauling (Katzenmusik)

Did you know that a "scandalized member of the audience originally called Schoenberg's compositions - pure katzenmusik (caterwauling)" and that people considered the young Prokofiev a "crazy man" and the effect of his music as "futuristic katzenjammer".

Katzenmusik is also the title of two compositions by third studio album by the German solo artist Michael Rother which he included in his album 1979 studio album of the same title (Wikipedia, and more).

Animal songs

Animal songs are usually great fun and at the same time they suite easily lessons for English learners.

For this reason, I made a collection of the animal songs we have in our repertoire. In our Piano Marvel Library we find a total 76 songs. Additionally, I include some of my favourite songs.

Blowin' In the Wind by Bob Dylan

Original version

It is always a challenge to arrange a piece for a different instrument than those it was originally conceived for. Bob Dylan's song Blowin' In The Wind was originally accompanied with guitar and harmonic, whereas his voice was rather dominant over the music. This gave the song its characteristic folk feel.

Here the original version by Bob Dylan.

Burgmüller with Drumbeat: La Candeur

Have you ever though what you could make out of Burgmüller if you add a few more vibes?

This is the piece. I love the tutorial Shirley Kirsten has published on Youtube.

At our little ensemble Oasis 14, we are testing this out right now. Have a look at the sheet music here:

World Federation of Music Therapy teaching on Crisis Support through Music Therapy

Today the 10th of March the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT) offered a SPECIAL WEBINAR FOR UKRAINE: MUSIC THERAPY IN CRISIS SUPPORT.

Music therapy specialists around the world have responded admirably to the growing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. They are working long hours in very difficult circumstances to offer help to individuals and families who are severely traumatized and had to leave their homes very suddenly, fleeing for their lives.

This specially organized crisis intervention webinar featured music therapy experts in psychological first aid and trauma care who have vast experience working with refugees in disaster and crisis situations. The main objective of this webinar was to provide music therapists, currently working with refugees or preparing to receive refugees, with specialized training and technical support.

It was a great privilege to to have the rar opportunity to learn from the panel of experts Barbara A. Else (USA), Liz Llewellyn-Coombes (UK), Mireya Gonzalez (CHILE) and Mitsi Akoyunoglou (GREECE).

All my thank to them for their kindness of spirit and generosity of service to provide us with such insightful hands on knowledge.
