'The Raggle Taggle Gypsy' (Roud 1, Child 200), is a traditional folk song that originated as a Scottish border ballad, and has been popular throughout Britain, Ireland and North America. It concerns a rich lady who runs off to join the gypsies (or one gypsy). Common alternative names are 'Gypsy Davy', 'The Raggle Taggle Gypsies O', 'The Gypsy Laddie(s)', 'Black Jack David' (or 'Davy'), ['Molly Dance'], and 'Seven Yellow Gypsies'.

In the folk tradition the song was extremely popular, spread all over the English-speaking world by broadsheets and oral tradition" (Wikipedia).

An attractive, short Trio, with fine filigree elaborations in the variations.

Emilie Julie Candeille (1767-1834)

 

Biography 

Emilie Julie Candeille was prolific from an early age as composer and performer, actress and author. She appeared before the King aged thirteen, at fourteen was engaged to sing at the Opera, and a year later took the title role in Gluck's Iphigenie en Aulide. Next she became an actress and made her debut at the Comedie Francaise in 1785, and after five years there, joined the Theatre Francaise. She created a sensation there in 1792 as star performer, playright and composer in 154 performances of her operetta Catherine, ou la belle fermiere. She made two unsuccessful marriages, and took to leaving France when life became difficult. As well as her theatre music, she composed several concertos, including two for several instruments, and various piano works. Many of her writings were published.

This is her only surviving concerto, and it was published in her lifetime with the quaint spelling of the movement titles listed above. It dates from the year of Haydn's 'Paris' symphonies, and the slow movement certainly suggests she knew her Haydn. It alternates, then varies sections in the minor and major. The outer movements are quite economical with orchestral ideas, though more expansive when the solo has the field to itself. The rondo theme has a happy way of returning in the 'wrong' key, but all is neatly balanced by the end. The whole has a brilliant D major feel, as characteristic in the classical era.

It would be possible to play this work as a piano sonata, though more interesting as a duo. The Andante alternates minor and major episodes (similar to the concerto slow movement). The Finale is a very perky Rondo.

About the composer

Josepha Barbara AURNHAMMER (1758-1820) "was an Austrian pianist and composer. She was born in Vienna as the eleventh child of Johann Michael Auernhammer and Elisabeth Timmer. Josepha Barbara Auernhammer studied with Georg Friedrich Richter, Leopold Anton Kozeluch and from 1781 Mozart, with whom she fell in love. On 27 June 1781, Mozart wrote of her: "Almost every day after dinner I am at H: v: Auernhammer's - The Miss is a monster! - plays delightfully though, however, she lacks the genuine fine and lilting quality of cantabile; she plucks too much." That year, Mozart dedicated his Violin Sonatas K. 296 and K. 376–80 to her" (Wikipedia).

About the piece

There is a piece with similar title by Vicente Martín y Soler (1754-1806) in his opera Una Cosa Rara - Act Ii - Sc. XV - Duetto "Pace, Caro Mio Sposo". But there is no obvious relation.

Musescore is a powerful tool to create sheet music and it has a high compatibility with Piano Marvel.


Sometimes, however, you can run into issues. In the following, I present you some tips and tricks how to make your music work in Piano Marvel using Musescore.

General notation in Palettes

Clefs

Clef changes in Piano Marvel can cause issues. They are not always red properly.
I haven found the right rules for this yet. Please, let me know, if you know more about it.

There are some articulations that work fine and others that not.

Lines

8va alta/bassa

8va alta and 8va basse can some times cause issues. Just check that everything is kept quite clean and it should work.


Some times, they cause issues, but I have not fully understood the reason for when and why.


15ma alta and 15ma bassa, as well as 22ma alta and 22ma bassa are not reliable and use to cause serious issues. Try to avoid them.


Barlines

Lyrics Text

You can use lyrics as text for uploads to Piano Marve.
It is recommended to put this text between the pentagrams, under the treble clef.
If you want to put many lines for several vreses it will simply cut the ones that do not fit.

Tempo 

Tempo information in Musescore sheet music can cause issues with the midi sound alignment in Piano Marvel, which is especially painful for chopped and minced files.

A few considerations can solve the issue:

1. Never set the overall tempo of the piece, set the tempo only directly in Piano Marvel;
2. Delete all tempo information;
3. You can give instructions such as "andante", "ritartando", etc. as lyrics;
4. Use hairpins (for creschiendo and diminuendo) and slurs they do not influence in the midi tempo.

Dynamics

Dynamis are not causing problems as long as you keep them simple.

Do not change the for each note, (some pieces are crazy in this respect).

Repeats & jumps 

Currently, repeats are not compatible. Sorry.
This is true for all forms of repeats. 
Instead of repeats you must use duplications.
Use the "insert bar" function and copy paste the bars for duplication.

There are fixed rules for orchestral order which can cause issues in score uploads to Piano Marvel.

Issue:
This can lead to issues in Piano Marvel. For example, you set a recorder above the piano staves, as it should be. In this case, it is very much possible that Piano Mavel will read the first recorder stave line as the treble clef of the piano and the stave under the recorder, which is the treble stave of the piano, is read as the bass clef.

For a clean upload in Piano Marvel, we need mostly a different order, specific for Piano Marvel.
You need to arrange the piano always at the top.
